Gareth Simpson

Gareth Simpson grew up watching his dad play rugby in South Africa and started playing himself at the age of five, representing both his school and local club. He went on to play throughout high school and earned selection for the KwaZulu-Natal Schools team in 2015, before joining the Sharks and spending a season with their U19s followed by a year with the U21s.

After his time with the Sharks, Gareth headed to New Zealand for six months of club rugby with Wellington Rugby Club. His performances there led to a three-week trial with Worcester Warriors in 2018, which resulted in a professional contract. Gareth spent four seasons at Worcester, making 51 appearances and helping the club win the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Following Worcester’s administration, Gareth headed to Australia to continue his career with Western Force in Super Rugby. Before making the move, he also had the honour of representing the Barbarians against Premiership opposition, scoring two tries across three appearances. In Perth, Gareth was named captain for a match before an injury brought his season to an early end.

Returning to the UK, Gareth joined Saracens, where he spent three seasons and made 47 appearances. He now brings more than a decade of professional experience to Ealing Trailfinders, having joined the club for the 2026/27 season.

Away from rugby, Gareth enjoys reading, surfing and gardening. A combination that gives him plenty of ways to unwind when he’s not on the pitch.
