VISITORS VICTORIOUS AT THE WERN
Ealing Trailfinders opened their pre-season with a solid win against Welsh Premiership Champions Merthyr.
Ben Ward changed his line-up in the second half as he made the most out of his 30-man squad. Will Harries gave them their first lead of the match after a break through the middle from Sam Rodman.
The first half saw the lead change a number of times and tries for Ealing Trailfinders from Lewis Robling, Will Harries and Lewis Jones.
In the second half, Ealing turned with the breeze in their favour and started to exert their dominance. An aggressive defence led to a number of turnovers and five unanswered tries.Try scorers were Will Harries who completed his hatrick, Lewis jones, Rayn Smid, Grayson Hart and Dan Temm.
Ben Ward reflected on the 51-24 pre-season win over Merthyr RFC,”After training for a number of weeks it’s always nice to get the first game under our belt. The guys applied themselves well and there were lots of positives to take forward as well as a number of areas we need to fine tune. Friday’s fixture will be a step up in intensity against a Premiership team who have recruited well.”
Ealing will complete their pre-season campaign next Friday (18 August) as they take on Aviva Premiership Rugby side London Irish at Hazelwood, kick-off 7.45pm.
