Rachel Malcolm’s sporting journey began in field hockey, where she represented Scotland at U17, U18 and U21 level. She spent seven seasons playing hockey at Loughborough University before switching her focus to rugby in 2016.
Rachel had already started playing rugby in 2015, joining Lichfield Ladies and spending two seasons with the club. In 2017, she moved to Loughborough Lightning, where she quickly established herself as a leader and went on to captain the side for an impressive eight years.
Her rugby career also developed rapidly at international level. Rachel earned her first Scotland cap in 2016 and has captained the national side since 2019. She has represented Scotland at two Rugby World Cups, gaining extensive experience on the international stage.
Following the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, Rachel made the move to Trailfinders Women, bringing a wealth of domestic and international experience, as well as almost a decade of captaincy, to the squad.
Away from rugby, Rachel enjoys good coffee, spending time with her dog Cali, catching up with friends and family, and going to see live music.
