Trailfinders Women secured a dramatic 39-38 victory over Bristol Bears in an enthralling game at Trailfinders Sports Club.

Braces from Lisa Thomson and Liz Musgrove, as well as tries from Kate Zackary Tyson Beukeboom, and Grace Moore, secured the brilliant result for Trailfinders.

It was Trailfinders who started the strongest, getting an early try with only a couple of minutes on the clock. After turning over possession from the kick-off, Trailfinders kept it tight, and it was captain Zackary who went over at the corner.

The hosts were on a roll and struck again before the ten-minute mark. Ella Amory made a brilliant read to intercept a loose pass and take Trailfinders into the red zone. They were patient with ball-in-hand, and eventually, Thompson crashed over.

Bristol responded in typical fashion through their powerful driving maul as Atkin-Davies rumbled over at the tail for their first try.

However, Trailfinders were determined to keep their momentum high and had another on the 25-minute mark with Musgrove the beneficiary in the corner.

However, with the sun glaring down and a fast track at Trailfinders Sports Club, the tries were coming thick and fast. Bristol yet again responded as Joyce_butchers managed to break a tackle and dive under the posts.

But Trailfinders got their bonus-point score in flashy fashion, with Thompson beating a player at short range and being able to dot down for her second.

Bristol had the final say of the half, with Millie David touching down in the corner.

But Trailfinders, in impressive fashion, extended the host’s lead yet again heading into the break with Amory hitting a cross-field kick to Musgrove, who took it and finished in the corner.

Half-time Score: Trailfinders Women 27-21 Bristol Bears

The visitors came out of the sheds on the stronger side, with Bonner making a break down the wing and finishing for the score.

However, Trailfinders continued to show their class, and Beukeboom crashed over for yet another try, and Moore added another brilliant line break to go straight under the posts.

The Bears were desperate to stay in the game, and they had another score through Millie David, who used her pace to break away.

Another try for the visitors through Atkin-Davies from close range meant Bristol had the chance to take the lead, but the conversion attempt from Bevan bounced off the post, meaning Trailfinders had a one-point lead with five minutes on the clock.

The Bears gave it their all, but the Trailfinders’ defensive set remained tight.

Cousineau was shown yellow for a high tackle, meaning the Bears had a penalty and an opportunity for a late score, but in an incredible effort, Trailfinders managed to hold the ball up over the line and secure a dramatic win.

Trailfinders Women lost 33-31 to defending champions Gloucester-Hartpury in a blockbuster game at Kingsholm.

A brace from Rori Wood and tries from Tyson Beukeboom, Alivia Leatherman and Liz Musgrove gave Trailfinders two losing bonus points from their travels.

The result means Trailfinders remain 7th in the PWR, one point behind Loughborough Lightning with a game in hand.

The game kicked off and Gloucester-Hartpury instantly showed why they are the team to beat in the PWR.

They scored twice in the first twenty minutes through Natasha Hunt and Mackenzie Carson.

However, as the first quarter ended, the tide changed, and Trailfinders were on the front foot.

Trailfinders set up a midfield maul and Gloucester-Hartpury, perhaps confused by the strange tactics, were penalised for in at the side.

Gloucester-Hartpury stopped the resultant maul, but from the following pick and gos, Wood got Trailfinders on the board from short range.

From the restart, Trailfinders were right back into the hosts’ 22. In a similar fashion to her Canadian counterpart, Beukeboom crashed over from short range to bring Trailfinders within two points.

Near parity, however, the visitors switched off for a second as the half drew to a close, and Hunt scored her second as the clock ticked into the red to widen Gloucester’s lead.

Half-Time: Gloucester-Hartpury 21-12 Trailfinders Women

Trailfinders came out of the sheds undeterred by the two-score gap and won an early penalty, setting up another midfield maul.

Gloucester-Hartpury seemingly stopped it and turned the ball over, and Pip Henry ran down the left wing to score.

However, the TMO called it back as the hosts were at the side of the Trailfinders maul, and after going to the corner, Wood got her second of the game from short range.

Trailfinders continued to force the agenda, and after Lisa Thomson pounced on an errant Steph Else pass, Leatherman powered over to give the visitors an unlikely lead.

Gloucester then replied through Neve Jones and Nel Metcalfe, giving the hosts a nine-point lead heading into the closing stages and making most of the fans inside Kingsholm think, “Game over.”

The visitors refused to be beaten, though. After a Gloucester knock-on, the hosts had no one in the backfield, so Caity Mattinson found turf, and Musgrove latched onto the end of the kick to score.

Gloucester flew forward imperiously in response and worked their way up to Trailfinders’ 5m line as the clock ticked into the red, but Chloe Rollie intercepted, and the visitors made it up to the hosts’ 22.

Trailfinders came within inches of the most famous victory in their history, but an untimely knock-on over the line meant Gloucester came away with five points.

Trailfinders Women narrowly lost 39-46 against Harlequins at The Takeoff 2 in a nailbiting encounter that had fans on the edge of their seats.

A brace from Kate Zackary, along with tries from Kat Evans, Tyson Beukeboom, Liz Crake, Vicky Laflin and a penalty try, was not enough to upset table-topping Quins.

Taking two points from the fixture, Trailfinders remain 6th in the table, two points ahead of Loughborough Lightning and 11 behind Bristol Bears in 5th.

The visitors came flying out of the blocks, scoring two tries in the first seven minutes through Silvia Turani and Claudia Peña, but Trailfinders responded quickly.

Abby Dow won a penalty at the breakdown, and following a kick to the corner, the Trailfinders maul powered over, giving Evans the opportunity to score.

The hosts then brought the gap down to four in a very similar fashion.

They forced Quins to infringe at the ruck and set up a maul on the opposition 5m; this time, Beukeboom was the benefactor.

Harlequins responded, displaying the kind of attacking flair that has taken them to the top of the table.

Three tries from Jade Konkle, Ellie Kildunne and Connie Powell gave the visitors a 21-point lead in a flash.

Undeterred, Trailfinders kept pushing, and debutant Rori Wood produced a sumptuous offload to Zackary, who scored to end the half.

Half Time: Trailfinders 17-31 Harlequins

If a 14-point lead at halftime led anyone to assume the contest was over, Trailfinders had other ideas.

They made three substitutions at halftime: Sam Shiels, Vicky Laflin, and Ella Amory coming off the bench, and the game turned on its head.

Trailfinders had the early momentum and kicked to the corner after a Harlequins infringement to set up another maul.

They got it rolling, and Harriet Millar Mills brought it down illegally, which resulted in her being sent to the bin, and Trailfinders were awarded a penalty try.

Despite being a player down, Quins scored next through Kayleigh Powell as they attempted to quell the hosts’ momentum.

After a booming Lisa Thomson 50-22, Crake powered over on the back of another maul to close the gap.

Crake then won a textbook jackal penalty, and Thomson found the Quins 22 again.

This time, the visitors managed to stop the driving maul, but Trailfinders reacted and went through the phases to find Laflin, who went over in the left corner.

That took Trailfinders to within two, and then, almost instantly, their captain stepped up and gave them the lead.

Trailfinders line speed forced a drop from Millar Mills, and Zackary hacked it into acres of space. Peña then fumbled possession trying to gather the bouncing ball, and Zackary hacked through again, picking the ball off her bootstraps to score an absolute screamer.

With 10 minutes to go, Trailfinders were in front, looking to cause a major upset, but Quins had the last laugh.

Two tries from Carys Phillips and K.Powell ultimately gave the visitors the win at the end of an engrossing encounter.

This leads Trailfinders into their contest away at Sale next week with plenty of positives to take, having run the league leaders very close.

Trailfinders women suffered a 22-41 defeat to league leaders Exeter Chiefs Women in their round 10 clash in the PWR.

Tries from Grace White, Annabel Meta, and a brace from Kat Evans weren’t enough as the Chiefs ran in a total of seven tries to come away with the victory.

Trailfinders came right out the blocks with attacking purpose and got a try on the board early doors through White in the corner.

Chiefs had scrum dominance early on and were using it to their advantage. They worked their way downfield from penalties, and eventually, the visitors crashed over from short range through prop Hope Rogers.

Trailfinders struck back in impressive fashion through the driving maul with Evans the beneficiary at the tail, but the Chiefs came straight back with one of their own at the maul, levelling the score once again via Rogers’ second.

The prop got a hat-trick as poor discipline killed Trailfinders, allowing the visitors entry into the danger zone, and Rogers went over for her third.

Exeter got their fourth through winger Sabrina Poulin just before the break as she ran in at the corner, pouncing on turnover ball.

Half Time Score- Trailfinders Women 10-22 Exeter Chiefs Women

There was an early yellow card in the second half for Exeter Chiefs as number eight Rachel Johnson was sent to the bin for a high tackle.

Trailfinders immediately capitalised on the player advantage with Kat Evans going over at the back of a rolling maul.

However, the league leaders built through the phases nicely and got a response from Dorothy Wall, diving over to extend their lead beyond a converted try.

They kept their clinical edge and went over for another rolling maul try, with Emily Tuttosi going over at the back.

Trailfinders were on the back foot, and Chiefs started to show why they are top of the table, scoring their seventh of the afternoon courtesy of winger Katie Buchanan after a free-flowing attacking set from the visitors.

Trailfinders had one more try right at the death as Annabel Meta made it just over the line to secure the losing bonus point.

That’s the final game in 2024 for Trailfinders Women as they return for the Takeoff 2 against Harlequins Women at Trailfinders Sports Park in the new year.

Trailfinders secured a bonus point 31-5 win over Sale Sharks Women at Trailfinders Sports Club in testing conditions.

Not even Storm Darragh could stop a flurry of tries from Trailfinders with Emma Taylor and Abby Dow getting over the line, as well as a hat-trick on her return from Abi Burton.

The conditions were horrific and had an undeniable impact on the style of play but it was Trailfinders who came out of the blocks the strongest with Burton’s first try.

She crashed over from close range before the ten-minute mark to get the hosts off to the perfect start.

Play became scrappy for the middle 20 minutes of the opening half as both sides fought the conditions.

It was Trailfinders who dominated possession but were struggling to execute in the final third; the best opportunity came from a teasing box-kick from Caity Mattinson to put Sharks under pressure on their own line.

Eventually, it was Burton who crashed over once again for the second try of the game at close range following a quick tap penalty close to the line.

The visitors hit back quickly, however, gaining entry into the 22 from a lineout and then went back down the short side for an easy run in for their winger Eva Wood.

It was Trailfinders who would have the final say before the halftime whistle, once again crashing over from close range and converting her own try to take a commanding lead heading into the break.

Half Time: Trailfinders Women 21-5 Sale Sharks Women

Once again, Trailfinders started the half quickly, and it was the lethal finisher, Dow who was the beneficiary, linking up from an offload following a brilliant break from Chloe Rollie and securing the bonus point.

As the sky darkened, the conditions somehow got worse, the wind and rain picked up and the temperature dropped even more

However, Burton remained on red-hot form, scoring her third to complete the hat-trick on the 60-minute mark, breaking over the try line yet again with tremendous power.

Sale remained in the fight for the full game; however didn’t manage to score any more points, and it was Trailfinders Women who came out on top at the full-time whistle.

It’s a vital win providing much-needed momentum as Trailfinders Women welcome league leaders Exeter Chiefs to Trailfinders Sports Club next Saturday for our Christmas Double Header.

Trailfinders Women fell to a 47-26 defeat to Harlequins at The Stoop in Round 8 of the PWR.

Tries from Lisa Thomson, Grace White, Tyson Beukeboom and Abby Dow were not enough to grab a win in southwest London, although Trailfinders took a losing bonus point.

The result leaves them 6th in the table ahead of Loughborough Lightning on points difference.

The hosts were on top from the off at The Stoop, and Kayleigh Powell opened their account diving under the sticks.

Trailfinders immediately replied and flew into the Harlequins 22 with ease off the restart. Thomson was then given an easy finish from a lovely flat pass from Caity Mattinson.

Quins then regained the momentum and played forward off the back of a solid set piece. Connie Powell dotted down on the back of the rolling maul to help her side regain the lead.

Claudia Peña was the next to cross for the hosts as the penalty count rose and continually scuppered Trailfinders’ attempts to exit.

Trailfinders were penalised again and Quins attacked via the pick and go deep in the Trailfinders red zone, giving Lizzie Hanlon the chance to power over.

White then gave the visitors a spark. From a tap and go, Trailfinders got a quick ball and found the winger in space to easily finish in the corner.

However, the old cliche about not switching off came into play, and Jade Konkle capitalised on giving Quins their 5th before half-time.

Half-Time: Harlequins 33-12

The second-half scoring didn’t start with as much haste as the first, although there was plenty of action.

Beukeboom was sent to the bin after an offence at the maul, and Trailfinders were down to 14.

Despite the deficit, an exceptional defensive set meant the hosts failed to score whilst having an extra player.

Returning from her sin bin, Beukeboom made an instant impact. Trailfinders set up a maul but pulled out and got into the pick and goes, allowing the Canadian to score from short range.

Again, Quins struck straight back. This time Babalwa Latsha crashed over from short range after an Ellie Kildunne break.

Thomson then set up Dow with a magical looping miss pass to the wing, giving the Red Rose a walk-over in the right corner.

Sarah Parry then capped off the scoring, latching onto the end of a Kildunne chip and chase to resign the visitors to a singular point from the contest.

Beukeboom then saw a second yellow and resultant red after a high shot on Latsha.

The results leaves Trailfinders 6th in the PWR, hosting Sale Sharks next weekend.

A difficult afternoon at Shaftesbury Park for Trailfinders Women saw them fall to a 26-7 loss to Bristol Bears.

A try from Tyson Beukeboom in the first half wasn’t enough for Trailfinders as Bristol Bears came away with the win.

Both sides struggled with the horrific conditions throughout; the wind blew straight across the pitch as the rain lashed down.

It was the hosts who struck first through Scotland international centre Emma Oor. After a strong handoff she broke through the line, and was able to go in under the posts.

There was a great defensive set from Trailfinders as they were able to deny the fearsome Bristol pack another try, holding them up over the line despite the consistent pressure from the Bears.

Beukeboom’s try started from a brilliant decision to go for the quick tap and then cross-field kick to Abby Dow, she kicked the ball ahead and put the pressure on Bristol,

Trailfinders were consistent and eventually converted as the towering lock crashed over for the score which was converted by fellow Canadian Emma Taylor.

Bristol would have another just on the cusp of the break. A clean break brought them close before number eight Row Marston-Mulhearn dotted down.

Half-Time – Bristol Bears 12-7 Trailfinders Women

The hosts came out of the blocks firing in the second 40 with an early try. Despite holding up the initial attempt by Bristol, they ran the ball straight back from the goal-line drop out and Sarah Bern was able to score.

With the weather taking a turn for the worst in the second half, play became even scrappier, possession moving back and forth between the sides due to simple mistakes.

Bristol were able to make the most of the conditions and turned the screw extending their lead through a strong run by Amber Reed.

Trailfinders were much-improved during in the closing stages; however, they couldn’t convert it into any more points, and Bristol came away with the win.
