Match Report

Trailfinders Women were defeated 32-19 by Gloucester-Hartpury in PWR Round 6.

Tries from Grace White, Tyson Beukeboom and Liz Crake were not enough to secure any points heading into the bye week.

The result leaves Trailfinders with two wins from five this season, remaining in 6th position overnight.

The first half saw Trailfinders battle to stay in the game against the reigning PWR champions.

Gloucester-Hartpury had the vast majority of possession, but failed to make their hosts pay as much as they probably should have.

The cherry-and-whites played almost all of the half in Trailfinders territory, but repetitive handling errors and some brutal defensive work from the team in green stemmed the champions’ scoring flow.

Despite this, they went in at half time with the lead. Emma Sing scored first from an intercept, followed by Ellie Rugman’s brace to make the score 15-0 at the break.

Half Time: Trailfinders 0-15 Gloucester-Hartpury

The visitors continued to hold the ball and Alex Matthews scored Gloucester-Hartpury’s 4th just after the break.

Trailfinders would be forgiven for letting their heads drop, but the hosts displayed no dejection.

They continued to battle away, and a breakthrough finally came. White found the ball on the left wing and broke through a double tackle, stepping inside the full-back to score.

In the delirium, Gloucester-Hartpury remained calm and replied straight away through Beth Stafford.

Beukeboom then crashed over to spark a few nervous twitches from the Gloucester-Hartpury bench. Not least because Trailfinders would restart with a penalty as the visitors infringed during the act of Beukeboom scoring.

Crake capitalised, also via the pick and go, and the hope of bonus points for Trailfinders began to spur on the crowd.

From the restart, however, the hosts were penalised for holding on at the ruck, and Sing knocked over an easy penalty to close out the game.
