Match Report

Ealing Trailfinders started their pre-season preparations with a winning start with a four-try win over Coventry at Butts Park Arena.

Rhys Lawrence, Luke Daniels, Joe Munro and debutant Mark Bright scored tries, along with conversions from Jonny Bentley and Luke Daniels.

Hooker Lawrence scored the first points of the match when he slipped through the home team’s defence to finish off a move that began deep in the Ealing Trailfinders’ half.

Coventry didn’t sit back and soon after they were level when left wing Max Trimble raced home following good work by Coventry’s fly-half Tony Fenner, who drew the scores level with the conversion.

The two teams continued to slug it out over the remainder of the half until Daniels used his pace to cross from close range and then as the clock ticked down to half-time Munro took the ball on a crash and forced his way across the line.

Daniels added both conversion to put Ben Ward’s team fully in control at the half.

Again the home team came back in the second half, but Ealing Trailfinders defence stood tall and when they threatened to score off a line-out the pack worked hard to ensure Coventry didn’t capitalise up their position.

Eventually it was Ealing Trailfinders who broke the deadlock when Bright latched onto the back of a driven line-out to touch down for his first try in Ealing Trailfinders colours.
