Abi Burton Announced As Brunel University Women’s Head Coach!

Brunel Rugby is thrilled to announce Trailfinders Women and GB7s player Abi Burton has been appointed Women’s Head Coach.

Burton has coached previously in the Trailfinders Women’s Pathway at Henley College.

During her work at the pathway, Abi helped the programme bring through players to England representative levels, including Emily Lunn and Hayley Jones, who both played for Red Roses U18s.

The back row has vast experience in professional rugby, representing Team GB at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, previously playing for Wasps in the women’s top flight.

She’ll be working alongside Transition & Pathway Coach Emma Cooper and Academy Coach Kate Zackary, hoping to lead the group to continued success.

Joining Brunel, Burton said: “I’m super excited at the opportunity to take Brunel to the next level. The girls work ethic is absolutely unmatched and I’m excited to share my knowledge and values with the squad. I’m really looking forward to working with the brilliant coaching team at the university.”

Trailfinders Women Head Coach Barney Maddison said: “Our pathway is so important to how we are building here at Trailfinders. Having Abi leading the programme is really exciting and she will be able to pass on all her knowledge of what it takes to compete at the highest level.”

Brunel University Women have been brilliant to start the season under Burton, beating Bristol 46-7, and Swansea a whopping 95-0 in their first two games.
