Abby Dow: Women’s 15s Player of the Year Nominee

Trailfinders Women are thrilled that our winger Abby Dow has been nominated for Women’s 15s Player of the Year.

Dow has been a star of the Red Roses since her debut in 2017, winning 39 caps.

After scoring five tries in her first two appearances for her country, she would build one of the most impressive scoring records in the world, along with winning Try of the Year last year due of her remarkable score against Canada at the World Cup.

In December last year, she was named at fullback in World Rugby Women’s 15s Dream Team of the Year, having been named on the left wing a year earlier. She is one of only four players named in both Dream Teams since its inception in 2021.

In the 2023 TikTok Six Nations, Dow made 113 more metres than any other player and 238 more than any other England player.

The winger was England’s top-scoring back and made the 6th most carries of any player in the tournament, one of only two backs in the top ten.

The winner of Player of the Year will be announce on the morning of November 4th.

After being nominated for the award Dow said: “I feel very honoured to be nominated for this award especially with the incredible talent we now see in women’s rugby.

I’m so happy to be nominated alongside such brilliant players like Gabrielle, Ruahei and Marlie, and they would all be deserving winners.

Director of Rugby Giselle Mather said: “ Abby is a fantastic role model in the women’s game. Her ability to always break the first tackle makes her a constant threat, but it is her dedication to her trade that, in my opinion, sees her nominated for World Rugby’s Women’s Player of the Year.

“Abby works tirelessly on perfecting her role and is now one of the best kicking wingers in the game, as well as a fantastic aerial threat. Her commitment to her rehab when she broke her leg five months before last year’s World Cup and to make the contribution to that tournament that she did gives you a window into the preparation Abby does on a daily basis.

“I am thrilled for her that she has been recognised in this way, and we are really looking forward to her wearing the Trailfinders Shirt in the upcoming Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby campaign.”
