Trailfinders ready to welcome Pirates as new season gets underway

Ealing Trailfinders have named their side for tomorrow’s Greene King IPA Championship season opener against Cornish Pirates at Vallis Way.

The West Londoners are looking to start the 17/18 campaign strongly, and Glen Townson will captain the team which has a mix of experience and six debutants after a number of new arrivals in the summer.

Will Davis, Alun Walker and Mark Tampin start in the front-row, with Glen Townson alongside Barney Maddison in the second-row. Rayn Smid, Andrew Durulato and Mark Bright will operate at the base of the scrum in the back-row.

Grayson Hart starts at scrum-half with Aaron Penberthy at fly-half, and a centre pairing of Joe Munro and Piers O’Connor in the midfield. Seb Stegmann, Will Harries and Peter Lydon start in an attacking back-three.

On the bench Matt Cornish, Djustice Sears Duru and Sam Rodman offer a front-row alternative, with Harry Casson and Dan Temm covering the rest of the pack. Scrum-half Luke Carter and Lewis Robling complete the match day squad.

Director of Rugby Ben Ward says that his side are all looking forward to getting underway after 12 weeks of preparation:

“We’ve had a great pre-season and now it’s time to put our hard work in to practice. Last year we had two great battles against the Pirates and I’m sure tomorrow will be another great game.”

He added: “We have a good blend of experience and new arrivals so I’m sure our supporters will be looking forward to seeing them all in action.”
