Trailfinders raring to go for rearranged Rotherham test

Ealing Trailfinders have made six changes to their starting line-up for tomorrow’s Round 17 Greene King IPA Championship match against Rotherham Titans at Vallis Way.

The team stays the same from the side that was announced last week before the postponement, with an extra week of preparation ensuring the side are raring to go as they look to cut the gap at the top of the table.

There are two changes up front and four to the backs with the side taking a refreshed look after the last match against Jersey Reds.

It is the fourth time that the two teams have met in the 2017/18 season after also being drawn together in the British and Irish Cup pool stages, and Ben Ward’s men are going in search of their fourth win over the Titans.

The front-row is unchanged with James Gibbons, Alun Walker and Mark Tampin starting in a settled area of the scrum, whilst Barney Maddison and Harry Casson continue their second-row partnership. Rayn Smid and Mark Bright return to the back-row alongside Kieran Murphy and will be looking to give the backs front-foot ball to attack with.

Calum Waters, who is on loan from Harlequins will make his first start for the club at scrum-half with Aaron Penberthy keeping his place at fly-half.

Joe Munro and Piers O’Conor will operate in the midfield, with a back-three of Miles Mantella, Will Harries and Luke Daniels looking to pounce on any opportunities that come their way.

Matt Cornish and Lewis Thiede offer a front-row alternative, as does Will Davis who will make his 75th appearance for the club if he comes off the bench.

Sam Dickinson will be looking to make his debut, with Morgan Allen also covering the pack. Scrum-half Luke Carter will aim to add some tempo when called upon, and Peter Lydon completes the match day squad.

Head Coach Alex Codling is expecting a fierce battle against a rejuvenated Rotherham side.

“All three games against Rotherham this season have been very tough and we expect nothing different on Saturday. We won’t underestimate them and know that we will have to be at our best to get a positive result.”
