Rayn Smid to continue as First Team Captain for 2019/20
Ealing Trailfinders is pleased to confirm that Rayn Smid will continue as First Team Captain for the 2019/20 season.
The back-rower missed just one game last season as he led the Trailfinders to Championship Cup glory whilst also collecting the Coaches and Supporters Player of the Season Awards.
His relentless performances also saw him selected for the Greene King IPA Championship Dream Team as blind-side flanker alongside fellow Trailfinders Jordy Reid and James Cordy Redden.
Smid joined the West Londoners half way through the 2016/17 season from Bristol, and has made 73 appearances so far in the Green and White shirt.
The South African will now enter his fourth year at the Trailfinders, and is thrilled to take on the captaincy role as the club continue their upward journey.
“It goes without saying that it’s a massive honour and privilege to lead such a talented group of players. My job is made a lot easier by having other leaders in the squad and I can’t wait to see what this group can produce this season.”
Director of Rugby Ben Ward admitted that it was an easy decision to appoint Smid once more.
“Rayn is a fantastic leader and it was an obvious choice for him to continue as captain. His leadership last year shone in difficult times and the way the squad came together was a reflection of him as a person.
We were delighted for him to be able to lift the Championship Cup and of course we are very happy that he will be leading us again this season.”
