Ealing Trailfinders looking to secure path to knockout stages as Connact head to West London
Ealing Trailfinders have named a strong side for tomorrow’s British and Irish Cup clash against Connacht at Vallis Way.
Director of Rugby Ben Ward has made just four changes from the side that faced Bedford Blues in their last outing, and the team are aware that a victory will see them secure their place in the knockout stages.
The West Londoners are in great form after winning their last six matches in a row as they head in to the Round Five match against the Irish outfit.
Two of the changes are in the front-row where James Gibbons and Lewis Thiede both start alongside Alun Walker at hooker, with a second-row of Barney Maddison and Llewelyn Jones.
The back-row of Kieran Murphy, Rayn Smid and captain Mark Bright stays the same after an impressive combination over the last few weeks.
Luke Carter and Rory Clegg continue their half-back combination, with Joe Munro being partnered by Lewis Jones in the midfield. A back-three of Miles Mantella, Will Harries and Luke Daniels will be looking to take advantage of any scoring opportunities which come their way.
Rhys Lawrence, Djustice Sears Duru and Sam Rodman offer a front-row alternative on the bench, with Dan Temm and Morgan Allen covering the rest of the pack. Dan Grant Adamson and Peter Lydon complete the match day squad and will be looking to make an impact when called upon.
Scrum-half Luke Carter knows that the win over Connacht earlier in the competition will count for nothing when the first whistle blows at 15:00 tomorrow:
“We looked back at the match in October which was very positive for us and have a good idea of how we want to play. We’ve prepared as we always do and expect a big test.”
“We’re not looking ahead and just focused on this weekend. We have big ambitions in this competition but it doesn’t matter what is coming up in the next few weeks, we just want to continue our home form and keep the winning run going.”
