Cordy-Redden back for more at Vallis Way
James Cordy-Redden will be back at Vallis Way next season having signed a new contract with Ben Ward’s side.
The wing joined the club in February from the England 7s squad. He marked his debut with a try at home to London Welsh and then appeared against Nottingham at Lady Bay a week later.
“I'm really excited to be moving to Ealing Trailfinders next season, ” Cordy-Redden said. “They're a club with a lot of ambition and I'm looking forward to linking up with the squad for pre-season after finishing with England 7s.”
The 22-year-old Cordy-Redden has enjoyed an eclectic rugby career to this point; after leaving Cranleigh School in Surrey he played for Rosslyn Park during his gap year and then moved to Bristol to begin studying at the University of West England.
During his time in Bristol he played for Cross Keys and twice played against Ealing Trailfinders during the 2013-14 British and Irish Cup.
Through Welsh grandparents he qualified for to play for Welsh Academicals and Welsh Students. He also earned a place for Great Britain Students 7s team at the 2013 University Games, where he played alongside current teammate Callum Wilson.
During another sevens adventure with Samurai at the Hong Kong Sevens he was spotted by England coach Simon Amor who brought him into the England 7s set-up.
“James came into the squad at the end of the season and really impressed with his attitude and performances, ” Director of Rugby Ward said. “He has the ability to play in the centres and the back three which will give us plenty of options.
“He is very good in the air and has a good set of core skills that will suit the expansive game we want to play. He also gives us another left footed kicking option.”
