Carter, Smid and Murphy sign new contracts with Ealing Trailfinders

Ealing Trailfinders are delighted to announce that Kieran Murphy, Rayn Smid and Luke Carter have all committed their future to the club by signing new contracts at Vallis Way.

The trio have been a crucial part of the squad throughout the 2017/18 season and will all remain with the West Londoners for the 18/19 campaign.

Rayn Smid, who has signed a two year deal has been an ever present in the match day squad and has spent the majority of the season wearing the number seven shirt. The South African will now enter his third season with the club after originally signing from Bristol in 2016.

Kieran Murphy who has also committed until 2020 has recently taken on extra leadership duties with the captaincy in recent weeks, and has been leading from the front with some outstanding performances.

The Welsh back-rower has formed a formidable partnership at the base of the scrum alongside Smid, and supporters will be excited to see that develop further next year.

Luke Carter has been the first-choice scrum-half for the Green and Whites this season and is one of the most experienced members of the squad. He is approaching his 50th appearance for the club, and has crossed the try-line seven times during the 17/18 campaign.

Director of Rugby Ben Ward is thrilled to have three key members of the squad staying at Vallis Way.

“It has been a great season for us so far and the commitment of these players has been exemplary throughout so we’re delighted that they will be staying with us.

Rayn has played every game for us in this campaign and is a very consistent performer. His work rate is first class and anyone who has seen us play will appreciate how important he is to our back row.

Kieran has come back from his injury and has shown exactly what he can do with his huge ball-carrying becoming a real weapon in our attack. He is a big presence in the squad and that has been shown by him recently taking on the captaincy.

Luke has shown some good improvements this year and has made the number nine shirt his own. He is a good personality around the squad and I’m expecting him to kick on again next year.”
